Compulsory Purchase of Manston, Kent's International Airport

We the undersigned petition the council to make a compulsory purchase of Manston, Kent's International Airport. We would also like Thanet District Council to look into the possibility of members of the public to buy bonds into this purchase.

The members of the 'Save Manston Airport' group believe Manston Airport is a vital economic and historic asset - both locally and nationally. To lose such a vital resource would be irresponsible and a complete travesty.

Council response

The petition was presented to Council on 10th July 2014 and was referred to Cabinet. The petition was then discussed at the Cabinet meeting on 17th July 2014 and further discussed at the Cabinet meeting on 31st July 2014 where it was agreed for there to be further discussions with the current owner with a view to establishing a way forward. It was agreed that Officers could proceed with the viability assessment to develop a high level Business Plan which would be necessary to support the Local Plan process and any potential future procurement for an appropriate investor/partners. It was also agreed for Officers to undertake a market testing exercise (prior to any full procurement process) to establish the level of interest.
